Carlo PerrottaDr. Carlo Perrotta

Learning Researcher

Carlo’s main research interests currently focus on learning spaces, personalisation and learner voice. As a psychologist, he is also interested in the relationship between identity formation and sociocultural learning. Through professional and academic experiences he developed a sound understanding of computer-supported collaborative learning, networking technologies and web 2.0. He also has experience of designing and evaluating participatory activities with adults and young people.

Research Interest Areas

  • Participatory design and co-design involving young people as active stakeholders.
  • Relationship between innovative approaches to learning and spatial characteristics.
  • Evaluation of learning spaces based on robust empirical methodologies, incorporating qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Role of socio-cultural aspects in the learning experience.
  • Networked learning
  • As part of my PhD at the University of Bath I have investigated how CMC (Computer-Mediated Communication) can support participation and learning, increasing expressive possibilities and encouraging social participation and identity development in communities of learners. I have recently submitted my post-viva revised thesis.
