BridgED: Making connections between industry and practice
9 July 2009
09:30 – 16:00
Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, 1 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5DB
Futurelab is launching two new events – one in the summer of 2009 and the other in the spring of 2010 - to support collaboration between industry and education practitioners.
The first of these events, BridgED, is being held in July and it will give you an opportunity to understand the needs of others in the sector and, more importantly, to help them to understand your needs. This ‘facilitated networking’ event supports managed introductions and conversations (or ‘dates’) between educators and their peers from industry, and offers wider networking opportunities with all attendees. It also offers an opportunity to hear from inspirational speakers from both sides of the sector: Stuart Ball (former primary teacher and now working for the Microsoft Innovative Teachers program); Tim Rylands (Becta award-winning educator renowned for his use of computer games in the classroom); and Sean McDougall (previously of the Design Council and founder of the innovative Stakeholder Design).
What’s in it for industry?
Are your products and services not known about or not used as you’d intended? Do you find it difficult to find teachers that are willing and able to take time out of their busy day-to-day schedules to help you to understand what they need from ICT in the classroom? With pre-arranged face-to-face sessions, you will be given the opportunity to understand your market’s needs, canvassing their opinions and receiving invaluable feedback. You will be able to hear ‘from the horses’ mouth’ regarding the issues and challenges that educators face when using ICT in the classroom, and you will have the opportunity to display and talk to the education sector about your products and services that could offer a solution to their needs.
What’s in it for educators?
Are you bombarded with new technologies but no idea as to how to use them for effective teaching and learning? Do you wish that industry would take the time to talk to teachers to develop products that meet your needs? Do you need more support from industry to use new technologies in the classroom? If this applies to you, then take this opportunity to attend this FREE event to ‘have your say’ and ensure that industry understands the issues and challenges that educators face when using ICT in the classroom.
