The Call for Ideas is now closed

The Call for Ideas is our way of seeking exciting ideas about new ways of learning with technology. We want to try new things and create new resources for learning, using the opportunities afforded by technology.

Our aim is to develop ideas and help showcase them to the education and technology sectors, the media and our network of contacts. We have an experienced team of experts who are skilled in R&D, researching and developing ideas and prototypes and in collaborating on projects. For the right idea we provide funding to cover the development costs of turning an idea into a reality.

The 2009 Call for Ideas on the theme of meaningful and mobile games resulted in an excellent range of submissions and the following idea was short-listed.

EcoBugscxpartners

EcoBugs is game aimed at learners aged 7 to 11, EcoBugs encourages learners' interest in the environment as they explore their surroundings to create, collect, and monitor the health of virtual 'bug' species. Players design their own virtual bugs to release into the wild, but must consider the environmental conditions of their particular surroundings to insure survival after release. Bug colonies are located using maps, accessed on player's phones or computers, and specimens are collected when a player goes to that location-whether in a school, a local neighborhood, or a national park-with a GPS-enabled mobile. When biological or environmental factors cause a population decrease, players must work together to figure out how to improve the situation.

May 2010: EcoBugs was selected as one of ten winning projects in the 2010 Digital Media and Learning competition. Find out more...
