I am a scientist at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge LA, a center completely dedicated to obesity and metabolic research. If there is every a need for research to the effect of a fizzee on energy expenditure, bodyweight etc. in children, Pennington would be a great place to do this. For more information, our website: www.pbrc.edu

  2. Charlotte Holbrook, Essex, UK

This sounds like an excellent idea, especially for children like my son, who would quite happily sit and play all day, and hates the thought of 'doing' anything!!

  3. Becky, Essex, UK

i think this is a great idea i cant wait for it to come out so everyone can try it!i will be one of the first to buy it , it looks really motavating.
p.s any idea when theyll come out in london?

  4. Graham Hopkins, Futurelab

Thanks for these positive comments! We're really keen to hear more about what people think of Fizzees.

We're currently looking for partners to help us get as many Fizzees into young people's hands as possible - both through commercialising and project partners. For example, we're currently discussing the possibility of partnership opportunities with the Football Foundation - the largest sports charity in the UK - which uses football to support a range of innovative education, health and social inclusion projects as part of its Community programme. Other groups interested in partnering us in developing this exciting project, either through development or commercial partnerships, are asked to contact us at innovations [at] futurelab [dot] org [dot] uk.

My children have brought this new technology to my attention and are very excited about it. I would be very interested in purchasing for each of my children when they have been manufactured.

They have said they would do more in order to keep their pet alive and healthy, also access the website and upload their achievements with others.

I'm a freelance journalist and my 8 yr old son saw this item on Newsround and has had me frantically searching the web to buy one! We didn't realise it was still under development. He is rather disappointed- therefore, we too would like to purchase one eventually (as long as the price was reasonable!!)

  7. Pauline Cramp, Woking, UK

Both my daughters aged 9 and 10 saw these on Newsround, and are very excited about it coming out. They were a little dissappointed to find it might be some way off, but we will wait patiently in the mean time! This sounds like such a great idea, and I'm sure you will find backers quickly.

  8. Sue Jones, Cheshire, UK

I think this is a great Idea. Rather disappointed it's not it the shops at present. When it comes out I will be one of the first to purchase. Any new when it arrives in the shops?

  9. Jonathan, Austria

    Hello,
is this still under development or can one buy such lovely device already? I am just curious ...
    Regards,
    Jonathan from Elite Pool

Fantastic idea. Such a shame that it is still in development, and amazing that you haven't been able to find someone to work with yet to get these out into the shops. I and several others I have mentioned them to would be very interested in muying them for my children. Please keep me posted on future production and retail availability.

Great idea, but I know the attention span of this age group for any type of toy is limited. You only have to look at the Tamgotchi experience to see this in action. My daughter has several "dead" Tamagotchi's, which have fallen out of favour, around the house. Good for short-term awareness raising of how one's own health can be affected by physical activity, but not sure of the cost-effectiveness of the fizzee for long-term change in children's behaviour.

  12. Cool

Looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing

  13. Naomi Richardson, Hull

My Academy is implementing a new Thematic Curriculum in Y7 starting in September. I would be really interested in taking part in your fizzee project. This would fit in really well with one of our 'How Can I Look After Myself' units. Who do I get in touch with?

  14. Robbie, NC

I agree completely with your thesis Charlotte Holbrook. This is a brilliant idea.

  15. Melissa, Orpington

Have just come across these. They sound really cool. Can I buy one yet?
