Digital Inclusion
Digital Dialogues
Digital Dialogues was a six-month programme of new media and digital projects designed to demystify digital media and demonstrate how it can be used to enhance communication in a creative and artistic context. The aim was to create a number of small networks in Lambeth, and engage them with different projects. They then came together for a party in the Hayward Gallery that showcased their work and, ultimately, bought the disparate and diverse virtual networks into the real world in a fun way that celebrated the project and the communities that were part of it.
The projects targeted those deemed to be in danger of digital exclusion through economic, cultural or financial reasons, and each project was devised to appeal to its target demographic and be easily accessible as appropriate for each group.
Projects included filmmaking with digital cameras and mobile phones, the creation of podcasts with local community groups, and bio-mapping, where the participants’ physical and emotional response to an area was mapped. Other elements included creating live feeds for an artist’s performance at the Hayward, a panel discussion about digital media, and ongoing evaluation so that the participants had a stake in the development of the project
