AbilityNet - barrier-free services

The barrier-free approach seeks to deliver assessments, training, support and advice through the innovative use of technology to disabled people regardless of location or need. The approach utilises free video-conferencing, desktop sharing, online meeting and an open source learning platform, integrated to deliver services on demand and at low cost.

The barrier-free approach utilises web connectivity to facilitate users finding solutions to their needs without intervention, which can then be escalated to more intensive forms of support. The availability of low-cost collaboration tools and video/VoIP services not only meets their needs but also provides them with valuable tools for their future use of ICT regardless of aspiration

Details on the implementation of the barrier-free approach can be found at www.abilitynet.org.uk and low-cost online courses on all aspects of ICT and disability can be found at www.abilitynettraining.org.
