ICT Dictionary

The ICT Dictionary of ICT terms was developed for QIA’s National Teaching and Learning Change Programme. It contains over 1,600 ICT signs and is aimed at deaf students, their Communication Support Workers and interpreters and anyone else interested in learning signs for ICT terms.

The signs are available in both video and text format. They were not ‘created’, but found by interviewing individuals or groups of deaf professionals and looking at signed TV programmes such as SignZone and See Hear. On completion of the research, a panel of 'critical friends' evaluated them to check that they were culturally and linguistically appropriate. Only those signs deemed appropriate by the panel have been included. Where there is more than one meaning for one word, different signs are available. There may also be regional variations of the signs featured.

Deaf professionals and BSL specialists worked together to translate terminology used in ICT and this website provides a resource for both the deaf and hearing communities.
